A life-hack from the middle of the fairway

“Let’s end up with one final question. What’s success for you?”

Psychiatrist Dr. Anna Lembke is the guest on a recent podcast. Anna is an expert on dopamine, addictive behavior, treating addiction, and so on.

“Success for me is…” she answers. “Success is a good day.”

Come on…

Really?

Then I thought about golf.

I thought about the number one tip pro golfers give to get the most out of your game. The thing to focus on instead of the angle on your left arm in the backswing, or not dropping the club through the downswing, or maintaining the rotation center at impact, or not raising the head too early…

You know… The stuff normal golfers think about out there.

If you get it, you get it.

To the rest of you: golf is a handful.

Anyway…

We’re not here to talk about rotation centers.

No, the number one tip pro golfers talk about to get the most out of your game is this: playing one shot at a time.

Come on…

Really?

Wait. Wait. Hear me out.

You see, standing there on the first hole, you have 70-100 shots until you’re finished (depending on your level). That’s a lot of golf. And that’s a lot of things that can go wrong.

But everyone can hit one good shot.

And a lot of good shots adds up to a pretty good round of golf.

“I work on the accumulation of small things over the course of a single day,” Dr. Lembke continues.

“Because what I have discovered is that a lot of good days add up to a pretty good life.”

Hmm.

I can relate.
