The machine is coming for you - what to do?

So you think you’re talented?

That’s nice, but whatever you think you’re good at, a computer can likely do 10 times better and faster.

You know, write, make music, make a picture, pick the fastest road, solve a puzzle, play chess, pick stocks to invest in.

Today, AI is solving most of what we humans can do. And without knowing it, you’ve probably interacted with +15 AIs today.

I’m not going to pretend that I know AI and what the AI-future might look like. But one question a lot of people ask themselves is:

“What’s my role when the machines take over?”

Should we leave everything to the machines?

Especially when it comes to creative work, it’s sometimes difficult to see the point.

I don’t need to play an instrument - a machine can do that

I don’t need to write - a machine can do that

I don’t need to paint - a machine can do that

Yes they can.

But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t.

Huh…?

Hang on and I’ll try to explain.

First, let’s take a short trip down the scientific road. Learning something new or doing something creative (like playing an instrument) have a positive impact on our brain (google neuroplasticity). Your brain will make new connections and improve as a result.

Let’s leave it at that.

Then, there’s a spiritual reason: remember the satisfaction and excitement you feel when learning something new? When you play a simple song for the first time.

That is happiness right there.

Why should the machines be the only ones to experience that?
