Playing defense won’t make you rich

Just a minute ago I stumbled on a few lessons from a book called "How Rich People Think" by Steve Siebold.

I haven’t read the book myself (I usually skip books with titles like that) and I usually scroll past tips & tricks like these.

But this time I got hooked.

Anyway…

Here it goes, Steve’s 9 bullets on differences between the rich and the not as rich:

  • Rich people focus on earning, not saving

  • They believe leverage creates wealth, not hard work

  • Know that money is earned from thought, not hard labor

  • Never worry about running out of money, instead think about how to make more

  • Don't see money with emotion, but logic

  • Realize they are in control of their wealth, not luck or fate

  • Aren't waiting for someone (like a politician) to "rescue" them

  • Are action takers (as opposed to having a "lottery" mindset)

  • Are not stressed by money, but actually get peace from it

You have time, read them again…

You wanna know what I think? Sure. I catch a few phrases in there, phrases like: “focus on earning”, “never worry”, “how to make more”, “in control”, “aren’t waiting for rescue”, “action takers”.

Now, life is more than making money so let’s zoom out a bit.

Let’s get existential and think about how we live our days.

Most of what we hear and do is complaining. It goes something like this:

“That is unfair”

“They never give me the chance”

“My job sucks”

“I rather stay in today”

But here’s the thing:

Less whining would be good for a lot of people out there. You know, rushing on the offense (seeing opportunities) instead of getting stuck on defense.

To continue the sports metaphor, you’ll let a few past the goalie for sure. But you’ll also score way more.

To score the goal, you need to attack.

To get the reward, you need to take risk.

If you want something to happen in life, run for the opportunities.

Apparently it made a lot of rich people rich. So why not try it.

Waddaya think?
